This was the first game of a home-and-home series featuring long-time arch rivals University of Denver Pioneers and the Colorado College Tigers. DU entered this game as the 18th ranked team in the country and only needing 1 point to secure the coveted Gold Pan Trophy. Meanwhile, the Tigers came into the game only having won 4 games the entire season. But, CC played inspired hockey on this night and defeated the Pioneers with a score of 3-2.
