Before the game, an honorary faceoff taken by FKA Fighting Sioux captain Dillon Simpson (#18, D, Sr, Edmonton, Alberta) and Pioneer tri-captain David Makowski (#10, D, Sr, St. Louis, MO) honored members of the 2004 Pioneer National Championship team. From left to right: ????, Danny King, Max Bull, Gabe Gauthier, Greg Keith, Nick Larsen. Unseen standing behind Gauthier is former DU Associate Head Coach Steve "Killer" Miller. After a 4-2 drubbing at the hands of North Dakota the night before, the Pioneers sought revenge in this Saturday night affair. The Pioneer squad came out with an energy and emotion that was lacking the night before. Sr. goaltender Sam Brittain was remarkable in net facing 43 shots over the game while yielding nothing to the FKA Fighting Sioux. DU's offensive efforts produced three goals, all by forwards, leading to a 3-0 Denver win in a must-win game for the Pioneers.
